Half sonnet + 2: Ashes
Birds fled past the tree tops and flooded the skies;
wingtips scraping the bloody clouds.
Under foot, the stones clattered
and crunched on the rocks.
We said our goodbyes and watched
your bones, now ashes,
colour the sea.
The clink of empty cider bottles
echoed our regret.
